About Barr. Murtala Aliyu Kankia

Barr. Murtala Aliyu Kankia is a Nigerian lawyer and public official from Kankia, Katsina State, currently serving as the National Legal Adviser of the APC since July 2025. He is regarded as a unifier and strategist in the North-West political landscape.

He holds an LL.B. and a Master in Business and Commercial Law from Bayero University, Kano, and completed his early education in Kankia and at the College of Education, Kafanchan.

Barr. Kankia has held key positions in state and federal agencies, including Federal Commissioner and Acting Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), and Secretary of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KATSIEC). He briefly contested for a House of Representatives seat in 2022 before returning to public service.

He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Code of Conduct Bureau (MCCBN).
