About APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is a political party in Nigeria, formed on 6 February 2013 in anticipation of the 2015 elections.
Senator Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru (PhD) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician serving as the National Secretary of the APC since August 2023, overseeing party administration and coordinating e-membership initiatives. He was appointed Chairman of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) in 2025 and withdrew from the 2026 Osun State governorship race to focus on national party duties and the 2027 elections.
He holds an LLB, LLM, and PhD in Property Law from the University of Lagos and studied Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Ilorin. Basiru has a distinguished legal career, including work at Olaniwun Ajayi Chambers and as partner at M.A. Banire & Associates.
He represented Osun Central Senatorial District (2019–2023) in the Senate, serving as Senate Spokesperson, and previously held positions as Osun State Attorney General (2017–2018) and Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties (2010–2014).
Born on July 1, 1972, in Osogbo, he is also the founder of the Alubarika Movement, a social and political empowerment group.
