Nasarawa State | Senator
Umaru Tanko Al-Makura (born November 15, 1952) is a veteran Nigerian politician, businessman, and elder statesman and a leading figure in the APC.
Born in Lafia, Nasarawa State, he holds a Bachelor of Education from ABU Zaria and began his career as a teacher and broadcaster before entering business.
He founded Taโal Nigeria Limited in 1978 and became a major real estate and hospitality entrepreneur, owning properties and hotels in Nigeria and abroad.
Politically, he was active from the Second Republic, served in the Constituent Assembly, and became Governor of Nasarawa State (2011โ2019) under the CPC. He later represented Nasarawa South in the Senate (2019โ2023), where he chaired the Committee on Solid Minerals.
As of 2026, he is Chairman of the UBEC Governing Board, North-Central Zonal Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, and a key APC leader.
He is married with children, practices Islam, and marked his 73rd birthday in 2025.
