Senator Dr. Yunus Abiodun Akintunde (born March 6, 1962) is a Nigerian academic, businessman, and politician representing Oyo Central in the 10th National Assembly under the APC. He is the first Nigerian to earn a Ph.D. in Energy and Environmental Studies.
Born in Oyo, he holds an OND in Physics (Electronics), a B.Sc. in Physics, an MPA from LASU, and a Ph.D. in Energy and Environmental Studies from the University of Ibadan.
He founded Trade Codes Limited, served as a lecturer, and worked as an environmental consultant. Politically, he has been Oyo State Commissioner for Civil Service (1999–2003) and Works & Transport (2011–2012), Executive Assistant to the Governor (2014–2015), and chaired APC committees in Osun and Kwara states.
Elected Senator in 2023, he chairs the Senate Committee on South West Development Commission, previously chaired the Environment Committee, and is Vice Chairman of Police Affairs. He has sponsored legislation to upgrade educational institutions in Oyo.
He is married to Alhaja Modinat Akintunde and was named NUJ Oyo “Best Senator of the Year” in 2025.
