Adamawa State | Senator
Aminu Iya Abbas is a Nigerian politician and chartered accountant serving as Senator for Adamawa Central in the 10th National Assembly. He was born in Yola, Adamawa State, and hails from Uba in Hong Local Government Area. He studied Accounting at Bayero University Kano, earning a B.Sc. in 2000 and an M.Sc. in Treasury Management in 2008.
Before entering politics, he worked in accounting and forensic investigation, including roles at African Petroleum Plc, KPMG, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a Certified Fraud Examiner.
He began his political career in 2011 as a member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, where he later became Speaker from 2019 to 2023. In 2023, he was elected to the Senate under the Peoples Democratic Party and now chairs the Senate Committee on Science and Technology. In 2024, he reportedly defected to the All Progressives Congress. He is married with four children and has focused on flood control initiatives, including projects related to the River Benue and the Dasin Hausa Dam.
