Mohammed Tahir Monguno, popularly known as M.T. Monguno, is a Nigerian lawyer and senior lawmaker representing Borno North in the 10th National Assembly. Born on February 12, 1966, in Monguno, Borno State, he earned a law degree from the University of Maiduguri and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990.
He began his career as a legal practitioner and lecturer before serving as Commissioner for Justice, Education, and Water Resources in Borno State. He entered national politics in the early 1990s and later represented Marte/Monguno/Nganzai in the House of Representatives for four terms, serving as Majority Chief Whip in the 9th House.
Elected to the Senate in 2023, Monguno became Majority Chief Whip in 2024. He has chaired key committees, sponsored major security-related legislation, and played important roles in constitutional and petroleum sector reforms. He is also known for constituency empowerment programs and education support.
A Muslim and loyal APC member, Monguno maintains close political ties with the Borno State government and remains influential in national legislative affairs.
