Kebbi State | Senator
Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi is a Nigerian academic, civil servant, and politician serving as Senator for Kebbi North. Born on December 10, 1950, in Argungu, Kebbi State, he earned a B.Sc. in Social Sciences and a Ph.D. in Rural Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, and completed professional training in agricultural research in the Netherlands.
He was an Associate Professor and Principal Research Fellow at ABU Zaria, later heading the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, and served as a Federal Permanent Secretary, including at the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs (2008–2010).
Abdullahi was first elected to the Senate in 2015 under the All Progressives Congress, becoming Senate Majority Leader in the 9th Assembly. He defected to the Peoples Democratic Party in 2022, won reelection in 2023, and returned to the APC in 2025. He currently chairs the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence and has been honored as Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), and inducted into the Most Valuable Parliamentarian Hall of Fame in 2023.
