James Shuaibu Barka is a Nigerian politician and diplomat serving as the Federal Representative for the Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly. Born on September 8, 1961, in Kalaa village, Hong LGA, Adamawa State, he holds a B.Sc. in Education.
Barka began his political career in 1998, representing the Hong Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, where he became Majority Leader in 2003 and later served as Speaker until his resignation in 2010. He briefly served as Acting Governor of Adamawa State from February to April 2008 and has also held diplomatic positions as a Nigerian Ambassador.
He has shifted between major political parties, including long-term membership in the Peoples Democratic Party, a period in the All Progressives Congress, and a return to the PDP in 2018. Elected to the House of Representatives in 2023, he currently serves as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Commerce, focusing on legislative oversight, community engagement, and development initiatives in his constituency.
