About Dauda Lawal

Dauda Lawal is a Nigerian banker, technocrat, and politician serving as the Governor of Zamfara State since May 29, 2023. Born on September 2, 1965, in Gusau, he studied Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University, earning both B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees, and later obtained a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, alongside executive training at top global institutions.

Before politics, he had a distinguished 25-year banking career, notably at First Bank of Nigeria, where he rose to Executive Director. He also worked in diplomatic service and advised on Islamic banking, contributing to the development of non-interest financial institutions in Nigeria.

He entered politics in 2018 and, after initially contesting under the All Progressives Congress, won a historic victory in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party by defeating incumbent Bello Matawalle marking the PDP’s first governorship win in Zamfara since 1999. He is now back to the APC.

As governor, he focuses on security, education, and infrastructure under his “Rescue Zamfara” agenda, declaring emergencies in key sectors and driving urban renewal. Through his foundation, he supports scholarships, healthcare, and community development projects across the state.
