Agbu Kefas is a Nigerian retired military officer and politician serving as the Governor of Taraba State. Born on November 12, 1970, in Wukari, he received his early education locally before attending the Nigerian Defence Academy, where he earned a degree in Political Science and Defence Studies. He also holds advanced degrees from the University of Ibadan and Delta State University, along with executive training in security studies.
Before politics, he served for 21 years in the Nigerian Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He later held key administrative roles, including Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and membership of the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative.
Kefas became active in politics as State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Taraba from 2020 to 2022 and was elected Governor in 2023, succeeding Darius Ishaku. In January 2026, he defected to the All Progressives Congress to align with the federal government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, after which he was recognized as the party leader in the state.
As governor, he focuses on development, security, and governance reforms in Taraba State.
