Suleiman Abdurrahman Kawu, popularly known as Kawu Sumaila, is a Nigerian politician, businessman, and academic serving as Senator for Kano South in the 10th National Assembly. He was born on March 3, 1968, in Sumaila, Kano State, and holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Al-Qalam University, along with other advanced degrees and international training.
He has had a long political career, serving three terms in the House of Representatives (2003–2015) where he was Deputy Minority Leader, and later as Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari. In 2023, he was elected Senator under the New Nigeria People's Party, defeating Kabiru Gaya, and later defected in 2025 to the All Progressives Congress.
His legislative focus includes local government autonomy, constitutional reform, and infrastructure development, notably advocating for the Kano–Maiduguri Road project and proposing the creation of Tiga State. He is also active in philanthropy, supporting education, agriculture, and small businesses through his foundation.
