About Karimi Sunday Steve

Sunday Steve Karimi (born c. 1960) is a Nigerian mechanical engineer and politician, currently serving as Senator for Kogi West Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly. He hails from Egbe, Yagba West LGA, Kogi State, and earned an HND with distinction in Mechanical and Materials Engineering from Kwara State Polytechnic in 1979.

Professionally, Karimi worked as a mathematics teacher, an engineer at DICON, and later founded a successful engineering consultancy, becoming influential in Nigeria’s water resources sector.

In politics, he served two terms in the House of Representatives (2011–2019) representing Yagba East/West/Mopamuro under the PDP, before being elected to the Senate in 2023 under the APC, succeeding Smart Adeyemi. He currently chairs the Senate Committee on Senate Services and is Vice Chairman of the Marine Transport Committee.

His legislative and constituency initiatives include:

  1. Building a military base in Egbe to combat insecurity (2024–2025)
  2. Launching a N300 million bursary program for 3,000 students in 2025
  3. Facilitating solar-powered boreholes and rehabilitating water schemes
  4. Sponsoring the CBN Amendment Bill on non-partisanship and currency use

Karimi is married to Stellamaris Karimi, has children, and is widely recognized for his philanthropy and community development efforts.
